Daily Tidbits 4/26 – Fruit

Apricot drawing of seed (pit) flower and fruit.

The English word fruit traces back to the Hebrew word for fruit which is פרות ‘parot’ from the root פר.  All fruit comes forth from a flower.  The Hebrew word for flower is פרח ‘parach’ which is a combination of the words פר ‘par’ which means fruit and רח ‘rach’ which means scent or aroma.  The fruit that smells…this describes perfectly the flower.  רח is also the root of the word רוח ‘ruach’ which means wind or spirit in Hebrew.

The fruit is in reality a part of the ovaries of the flower which become seeds after ‘double fertilization’ which then produce fruit.  The Word is likened to seed (Luke 8:11).  The fruit is the actions and words that come forth from man who is born again by the Word (1Peter 1:23; 1John 3:0; James 1:18, 21).

The Fruit of the Spirit
Gal 5:22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23  Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

There are 9 fruit of the Spirit, which correspond to 9 gifts of the Spirit

1Co 12:6  And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
1Co 12:7  But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
1Co 12:8  For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom (1); to another the word of knowledge (2) by the same Spirit;
1Co 12:9  To another faith (3) by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing (4) by the same Spirit;
1Co 12:10  To another the working of miracles (5); to another prophecy (6); to another discerning of spirits (7); to another divers kinds of tongues (8); to another the interpretation of tongues (9):
1Co 12:11  But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

The Hebrew word for nine is תשע ‘tesha’ which comes from the root שע meaning the shepherd.

This is also the root of the word ישועה ‘yeshuah’ from whence comes the name of our Savior.

It is also interesting to note that the word פר (fruit) has the numerical value of 280 which is equivalent to the word רעי ‘roi’ which means ‘my shepherd’ (Psalm 23:1)

The fruit that is formed from the flower occurs in the ‘gynoecium’ of the flower.

Gynoecium comes from the Greek words γυνή, gyne, meaning woman, and οἶκος, oikos, meaning house.  Ιt is interesting to note that the Hebrew letter ב ‘bet’ which means a house, consisted of 2 sections (double fertilizatoin) held up by 9 poles.  Amazingly, another Hebrew word for fruit is אב which also means a pole.

The Enlarged Bet

This first letter of the Scriptures is enlarged.  This is one of the peculiar letters in the Scriptures which is not the normal size.  Messiah Yahshua referred to these as ‘jots and tittles’ in Matthew 5:18.  The letter Bet means a house.

This is the primary purpose of Creation.  The Almighty desired to have a physical dwelling.  To build a house, a man takes a bride who establishes the home where children are born and raised.  This is the desire of our Creator.  To have a physical dwelling with His bride where many sons will be brought to glory (Hebrews 2:10).

The fertilization process of the flower begins when the pollen (which means ash or ground seeds) a picture of the carnal nature of man (Genesis 18:27) is carried by the wind (which in Hebrew is רוח ‘ruach’ the same word for Spirit) or an insect to the stigma of a compatible flower.  The bristly hairs on the pollen carrying insects is called ‘scopa’ from a Latin word meaning a broom.  This traces back to the Hebrew word סחף ‘sachaf’ which means to be swept away.

The pollen comes forth from the stamen of the flower.  The word stamen traces back to the Hebrew word שתום ‘shatom’ which is used in the Bible in reference to a man whose eyes have been opened.

Num 24:3  And he took up his parable and said, The saying of Balaam the son of Beor, and the saying of the man whose eyes have been opened {שתום }.

This begins the process of carnal man being born again.  This is what fruit coming forth from a flower is representing.

Interestingly, the word stamen also is linked to the Greek word ‘stoma’ which means the mouth.  A mouth is an ‘opening’ which is why the etymology traces back to שתום which means open.

Rom 10:8  But what does it say? “The Word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the Word of faith which we proclaim) Deuteronomy 30:12-14.
Rom 10:9  Because if you confess the Lord Jesus with your mouth, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Rom 10:10  For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses unto salvation.

The pollen (Word) comes forth from the mouth.  It is carried upon the wind (Spirit) to the stigma of another flower.  The stigma is the mark, or the ‘ears.’

Rom 10:11  For the Scripture says, “Everyone believing on Him will not be put to shame.” Isa. 28:16
Rom 10:12  For there is no difference both of Jew and of Greek, for the same Lord of all is rich toward all the ones calling on Him.
Rom 10:13  For everyone, “whoever may call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Joel 2:32
Rom 10:14  How then may they call on One into whom they have not believed? And how may they believe One of whom they have not heard? And how may they hear without preaching?
Rom 10:15  And how may they preach if they are not sent? Even as it has been written, “How beautiful” “the feet of those preaching the gospel of peace, of those preaching the gospel of good things.” Isa. 52:7
Rom 10:16  But not all obeyed the gospel, for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” Isa. 53:1
Rom 10:17  Then faith is of hearing, and hearing through the Word of God.

Deu 6:4  Hear, O Israel, YHWH our God is one YHWH.
Deu 6:5  And you shall love YHWH your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.
Deu 6:6  And these Words which I am commanding you today shall be on your heart.
Deu 6:7  And you shall teach them to your sons, and shall speak of them as you sit in your house, and as you walk in the way, and as you are lying down, and as you are rising up.
Deu 6:8  And you shall bind them for a sign on your hand; and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes.
Deu 6:9  And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house, and on your gates.

The pollen adheres to the stigma and germinates when moisture is taken in.

The Word is His Seed
Luk 8:11  And this is the parable: The seed is the Word of God.
Luk 8:12  And those by the roadside are those who hear, then the Devil comes and takes away the Word from their heart, lest believing they may be saved.
Luk 8:13  And those on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the Word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a time, and in time of trial draw back.
Luk 8:14  And those falling in the thorn bushes, these are those hearing, but under cares and riches and pleasures of life, moving along, they are choked, and do not bear to maturity.
Luk 8:15  And those in the good ground, these are the ones who in a right and good heart, hearing the Word, they hold it and bear fruit in patience.

The Word is the seed, but a seed needs water in order for it to spring forth into life and bring forth fruit
THE SPIRIT IS LIKENED UNTO WATER
Isa 44:3  For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:
Eze 36:25  Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.
Eze 36:26  A new heart {circumcision of the heart}also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
Eze 36:27  And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
HIS WORD IS SPIRIT
Joh 6:63  It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Born again/conceived from above by the Spirit/Word
Tit 3:5  Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Tit 3:5 He saved us, not by works of righteousness which we have done but according to His compassion, through the washing of rebirth, and renewal by the Set-apart Spirit,
1Pe 1:23  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
1Jo 3:9  Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
Jam 1:18  Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
Jas 1:21  On account of this, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of evil, in meekness receive the implanted Word being able to save your souls.

A pollen tube is then formed that reaches down through the style to fertilize the ovary at the bottom.

In Hebrew the word for a tube is אבוב ‘avoov’ which can also mean a vine.
Joh 15:1  I am the True Vine, and My Father is the Vinedresser.
Joh 15:2  Every branch in Me not bearing fruit, He takes it away; and each one bearing fruit, He prunes, so that it may bear more fruit.
Joh 15:3  You are already pruned because of the Word which I have spoken to you.
Joh 15:4  Remain in Me, and I in you. As the branch is not able to bear fruit of itself, unless it remain in the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in Me.
Joh 15:5  I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one abiding in Me, and I in him, this one bears much fruit, because apart from Me you are not able to execute, nothing.

The English word ‘style’ comes from the Latin word ‘stilus’ meaning a stake or an instrument for writing.  Here is a picture of the crucifixion.  The stigma is the word for a mark and also the wounds in the hands of the Messiah.  The style is the stake upon which He took upon our sins.  Here is also a picture of sinful man dying to the flesh through Messiah.

Php 3:14  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Rom 6:3  Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Rom 6:4  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Rom 6:5  For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
1Pe 4:12  Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
1Pe 4:13  But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
1Pe 4:14  If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

The Latin word ‘stilus’ traces back further to the Hebrew word צורה ‘tsurah’ which is the word for the flint used by the ancients to circumcise their flesh (Exodus 4:25).

Col 2:11  In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
Col 2:12  Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
Col 2:13  And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

The pollen travels down the pollen tube where it fertilizes the ovaries to produce fruit.  The word ovary comes from the Hebrew word עוף ‘oph’ which is speaking of the wings of a bird.

This is speaking of abiding under the shadow of His wings as the little guy in His Eye.  Truly knowing Him.  Abiding under the shadow of His wings as the little guy in His Eye is intimately linked to the crucifixion of Messiahclick here.

The Hebrew word for ‘to know’ is דע ‘dah’ which literally means the door of the eyes.  Abiding under the shadow of His wings in a close relationship where you see yourself as a little guy in the ‘door of His eyes.’

1Pe 1:23  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Joh 17:3  And this is everlasting life, that they may know (ginosko=yada) You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.

Eph 3:17  that through faith Christ may dwell in your hearts, having been rooted and founded in love,
Eph 3:18  that you may be given strength to grasp, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and depth and height,
Eph 3:19  and to know the surpassing knowledge and love of Christ, that you may be filled to all the fullness of God.

When we know Him, then we can bear His fruit.
Jer 31:33  But this shall be the covenant that I will cut with the house of Israel: After those days, declares YHWH, I will put My Law in their inward parts, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
Jer 31:34  And they shall no longer each man teach his neighbor, and each man his brother, saying, Know YHWH. For they shall all know Me, from the least of them even to the greatest of them, declares YHWH. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sins no more.

1Jn 2:3  And by this we know that we have known Him, if we keep His commands.
