Shadows of Messiah

In Hebrew, Astronomy is תכונה

תכונה is only used one time in the Scriptures:

Job 23:3 Oh that I knew where I might find Him, I would come into His seat;

This is speaking of the Throne of God.

Keil and Delitszch commentary

If he but knew how to reach Him (God), could attain to His throne; תְּכוּנָה (everywhere from כּוּן, not from תָּכַן) signifies the setting up, i.e., arrangement (Eze_43:11) or establishment (Nah_2:10) of a dwelling, and the thing itself which is set out and established, here of the place where God’s throne is established.

The Scriptures speak of the heavens as His throne Matthew 5:34; Isaiah 66:1; Psalm 11:4.

תכונה comes from the word כון which means a foundation or something that is firm, something that is orderly.

Psa 103:19 Jehovah has prepared (kun) His throne in Heaven, and His kingdom rules over all.

Psa 8:3 When I look upon Your heavens, the work of Your fingers: the moon and the stars which You have fixed (kun);
Psa 8:4 what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man, that You visit him?

תכונה comes from the parent root:

The Seed = the Word

Luk 8:11 And this is the parable: The seed is the Word of God.

The Seed = Messiah

Gal 3:16 But the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his Seed (it does not say, And to seeds, as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” which is Christ). Genesis 3:15; 21:12; 22:18, Rom. 9:6; Heb. 11:18

Messiah = Israel

Isa 49:3 And said unto me, Thou art my servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified.
Isa 49:5
And now, saith the LORD that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, and my God shall be my strength.

This prophecy is speaking of Messiah. Messiah is the Servant Israel.
Isa 49:6 And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes(H7626) of Jacob, and to restore(shub…lead back in repentance) the preserved(v’netsri-Netsarim=followers of Messiah) of Israel.I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation(H3444yeshua) unto the end of the earth.

Seed= Messiah= Israel = Sun, Moon & Stars

Psa 89:1 A Poem of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing of the mercies of Jehovah forever; I will speak with my mouth Your faithfulness to all generations.
Psa 89:2 For I have said, Mercy shall be built up forever; You shall establish Your faithfulness in the heavens.
Psa 89:3 I have cut a covenant with My elect; I have sworn to David My servant,
Psa 89:4 I will establish your Seed forever, and build up your throne to all generations. Selah.

Psa 89:5 And the heavens shall thank Your wonders, O Jehovah; also Your faithfulness in the assembly of the saints.

Psa 89:29 And I have established his Seed forever, and His throne as the days of the heavens.

Psa 89:35 Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David.
Psa 89:36 His Seed shall be forever, and his throne as the sun before Me.
Psa 89:37 Like the moon, it shall be forever; and a faithful witness in the sky. Selah.

His Glory

Psa 8:1 To the chief musician, on the harp. A Psalm of David. O Jehovah, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth; You have set Your glory above (על – above/on/upon)the heavens!

His Glory is seen in the heavens…What is the Glory of the Lord? The Lamb of God (Revelation 21:23). The Hebrew word for Glory is ‘kavod’ which comes from the root ‘kab’ which means a star:

Psa 8:2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings, You have ordained strength, because of the ones distressing You, to cause the enemy and the avenger to cease.
Psa 8:3 When I look upon Your heavens, the work of Your fingers: the moon and the stars which You have fixed;

The work of His fingers is linked to His Word

Exo 31:18 And when He finished speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave to Moses the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written by the finger of God.

Psa 33:6 Through the Word of Jehovah the heavens were made; and all their host were made by the breath of His mouth.

Psa 19:1 To the chief musician. A Psalm of David. The heavens are recounting* (saphar) the glory of God, and the expanse proclaiming His handiwork.

*The word translated here as recounting/declare is from the Hebrew saphar which is the word used to translate ‘scroll.’

The Scriptures connect the heavens to a scroll
Rev 6:14 And the heaven departed like a scroll being rolled up. And every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
Isa 34:4 And all the host of the heavens shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together like a scroll. Then all their host shall droop, as a leaf drooping from the vine, and as the drooping from a fig tree.
66 words in these two verses…66 books in the Scriptures

Abraham was told to ‘tell’/ count the stars. The word translated as tell/count is saphar

Gen 15:5 And He brought him outside and said, Look now at the heavens and count the stars, if you are able to count them. And He said to him, So shall your seed be.

Gal 3:16 But the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his Seed (it does not say, And to seeds, as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” which is Christ).

Paul equates the heavens with the Word/Gospel
Rom 10:16 But not all obeyed the gospel, for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” Isa. 53:1
Rom 10:17 Then faith is of hearing, and hearing through the Word of God.
Rom 10:18 But I say, Did they not hear? Yes, rather, “into all the earth their voice went out, and to the ends of the world their words.”
LXX-Psa. 18:5; MT-Psa. 19:4

Psa 19:1 To the chief musician. A Psalm of David. The heavens are recounting the glory (Messiah is the Glory Revelation 21:23) of God, and the expanse proclaiming His handiwork.

Psa 19:2 Day by day they pour forth (a flowing out from within, related to נבא/prophecy) speech (omer from root מל/word), and night to night reveals (חוה this is the name of ‘Eve’ the bride) knowledge.

On a deeper level verse 2 is stating that the sun, moon and stars and their courses are prophesying the Word and revealing knowledge of the bride. The movement of the heavenly bodies teach the Gospel of Messiah and His bride (the Seed)
Psa 19:3 There is no speech, nor are there words where their voice is not heard.

Psa 19:4 Their voice is gone out into all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.

Psa 19:5 and he comes forth like a bridegroom from his canopy. He rejoices like a hero to run a race;
Psa 19:6 his going forth from the end of the heavens, and his orbit to their ends; and nothing is hidden from his heat.

Notice the following verses in Psalm 19 speak of the Torah, linking the Scroll in heaven to the Scroll on earth

Psa 19:7 The Law of Jehovah is perfect, converting the soul. The Testimony of Jehovah is sure, making the simple wise.
Psa 19:8 The precepts of Jehovah are right, rejoicing the heart. The commands of Jehovah are pure, giving light to the eyes.
Psa 19:9 The fear of Jehovah is clean, enduring forever. The judgments of Jehovah are true, they are righteous altogether.
Psa 19:10 They are more precious than gold, even much fine gold, and sweeter than honey and drops from the honeycomb.
Psa 19:11 Also Your servant is warned by them; in keeping of them is great reward.

The heavens are a parable

Gen 1:18 and to rule over the day and over the night; and to divide between the light and the darkness. And God saw that it was good.

The word translated as ‘rule’ here is from the Hebrew ‘mashal’ which means to rule, compare, a proverb or a parable.

The Word is likened to a parable

Psa 78:1 A Lesson of Asaph. O my people, listen to my law; bow your ears to the words of my mouth.
Psa 78:2 I will open my mouth in a parable; I will pour forth dark sayings of old,
Mat 13:34 Jesus spoke all these things in parables to the crowds, and He did not speak to them without a parable,
Mat 13:35 so that was fulfilled that spoken through the prophet, saying: “I will open My mouth in parables; I will speak out things hidden from the foundation of the world.”
Psa. 78:2

His Name

Rev 19:13 and having been clothed in a garment which had been dipped in blood. And His name is called The Word of God.

The Hebrew word for heavens, is ‘shamayim’ which comes from the root word ‘shem’ (name).

Psa 8:1 To the chief musician, on the harp. A Psalm of David. O Jehovah, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth; You have set Your glory above the heavens!

Keil & Delitzsch commentary on Psalm 8:1

Psa 8:1-2
(Heb.: 8:2-3) Here, for the first time, the subject speaking in the Psalm is not one individual, but a number of persons; and who should they be but the church of Jahve, which (as in Neh_10:30) can call Jahve its Lord (אֲדֹנֵינוּ, like אֲדֹנָי from אֲדֹנִים plur. excellentiae, Ges. §108, 2); but knowing also at the same time that what it has become by grace it is called to be for the good of the whole earth? The שֵׁם of God is the impress (cognate Arabic wasm, a sign, Greek σῆμα) of His nature, which we see in His works of creation and His acts of salvation, a nature which can only be known from this visible and comprehensible representation (nomen = gnomen).

Spreading out the Heavens

By His Wisdom/Word He spread out the Heavens.

Wisdom = Jesus

Pro 8:22 Jehovah possessed me {wisdom} in the beginning of His way, from then, before His works.
Pro 8:23 I was set up from everlasting, from that which was before the earth.
Pro 8:24 When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no springs heavy with water.
Pro 8:25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hills, I was brought forth;
Pro 8:26 before He had made the earth and the fields, or the highest part of the dust of the world.
Pro 8:27 When He prepared the heavens, I was there; when He set a circle on the face of the deep,
Pro 8:28 when He formed the clouds above, when He made the strong fountains of the deep,
Pro 8:29 when He gave to the sea its limit, that the waters should not pass beyond His command; when He decreed the foundations of the earth,
Pro 8:30 then I was at His side, like a master workman*; and I was His delights day by day, rejoicing before Him at every time;

*The Hebrew word here is amon/amen.

Rev 3:14 And to the angel of the assembly of Laodicea, write: These things says the Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Head of the creation of God:

Psa 136:1 O give thanks to Jehovah, for He is good; for His mercy endures forever.
Psa 136:2 O give thanks to the God of gods; for His mercy endures forever.
Psa 136:3 O give thanks to the Lord of lords; for His mercy endures forever;
Psa 136:4 to Him who alone does great wonders; for His mercy endures forever;
Psa 136:5 to Him who by wisdom made the heavens; for His mercy endures forever;
Psa 136:6 to Him who spread the earth on the waters; for His mercy endures forever;
Psa 136:7 to Him who made great lights; for His mercy endures forever;
Psa 136:8 the sun to rule by day; for His mercy endures forever;
Psa 136:9 the moon and the stars to rule by night; for His mercy endures forever;

Jer 10:12 It is He who made the earth by His power, who established the world by His wisdom, and who stretched out the heavens by His understanding.

Stretching out the Heavens

Elegant Universe – Brian Greene pg 81-81

“the overall size of the spatial universe must be changing in time. That is, either the fabric of the universe is stretching or it is shrinking, but it is not simply staying put. The equations of general relativity show this explicitly….Edwin Hubble experimentally established that the universe is expanding.”

The Holy Scriptures are clear that God stretches forth the Heavens.

2 Sam 22:10; Job 9:8; 26:7; 37:18; Psalm 18:9; 104:2; 144:5; Isaiah 40:22; 42:5; 44:24; 45:12; 48:13; 51:13; Jeremiah 10:12; 51:15; Ezekiel 1:22; Zechariah 12:1.

‘Fabric of the universe’

The Scriptures also describe the Heavens as a garment/fabric. Psalm 102:25-26; Isaiah 34:4; 51:6; 64:1.

Beginning with Einstein, and now those who teach string theory, it is shown that the universe is actually made up of a ‘fabric’. According to Einstein, gravity is the warping of this fabric of space-time. Below it is seen that Messiah/the Word is that which holds all things together. Brian Green, in his book Elegant Universe describes the fabric of space as flat until mass is entered which causes ‘ripples in a pond.’ Notice how the language that is used points back to the Holy Scriptures.

Elegant Universe pg 72

“Why don’t we feel space if we are immersed within its fabric? But we do. We feel gravity, and space is the medium by which the gravitational force is communicated. As the eminent physicist John Wheeler has often said in describing gravity, ‘mass grips space by telling it how to curve, space grips mass by telling it how to move.‘ “

Held together by His Word

2Pe 3:3 first, knowing this, that during the last days scoffers will come walking according to their own lusts,
2Pe 3:4 and saying, Where is the promise of His coming? For from which time the fathers fell asleep, all things remain so from the beginning of creation.
2Pe 3:5 For this is hidden from them by their willing it so, that heavens were of old, and earth by water, and through water, having subsisted
(G4921) by the Word of God,
2Pe 3:6 through which the world which then was, being flooded by water, perished.
2Pe 3:7 But the heavens and the earth now, having been stored up by the same Word, are being kept for fire to a day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

Held together by His Word

συνιστάω / συνιστάνω / συνίστημι
sunistaō / sunistanō / sunistēmi
Thayer Definition:
1) to place together, to set in the same place,to bring or band together
1a) to stand with (or near)
2) to set one with another
2a) by way of presenting or introducing him
2b) to comprehend
3) to put together by way of composition or combination, to teach by combining and comparing
3a) to show, prove, establish, exhibit
4) to put together, unite parts into one whole
4a) to be composed of, consist

This word corresponds to the Hebrew word ‘tsavah’ (commandment).

sun istemi H6680 tsavah pi.

Col 1:17 And He is before all things, and all things have subsisted (G4921 συνέστηκε) in Him.

His Word is holding all things together. Interestingly, one of the Hebrew words for ‘word’ is amar. What is the meaning of amar? Thoughts that are bound together. Amar comes from the following root word:

The Waters above the Firmament

Waters above the heavens…the waters below the
firmament were called seas, but the waters above the firmament were not named. Waters = the unknown.

The waters above the firmament/heavens is where God dwells.
Psa 148:4 Praise Him, O heavens of heavens; and O waters that are above the heavens.

Keil & Delitzsch commentary

The Scriptures, from the first page to the last, acknowledge the existence of celestial waters, to which the rain-waters stand in the relation as it were of a finger-post pointing upwards (see Gen_1:7). All these beings belonging to the superterrestrial world are to praise the Name of Jahve, for He, the God of Israel, it is by whose fiat (צִוָּה, like אָמַר in Psa_33:9)

Notice that Keil & Delitszch connect these waters to tsevah/command. This links back to Colossian 1:17, where all things subsist (tsevah) in Messiah.

Psa 33:6 Through the Word of Jehovah the heavens were made; and all their host were made by the breath of His mouth.
Psa 33:7 The waters of the sea were gathered like a heap, setting the depths in storehouses.
Psa 33:8 Let all the earth fear Jehovah; let all those living in the world stand in awe of Him.
Psa 33:9 For He spoke, and it came into being; He commanded, and it stood fast.

Psa 104:3 who lays beams in the waters of His upper rooms; setting thick clouds as His chariots; walking on the wings of the wind.

Albert Barnes commentary

Psa 104:3
Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters – The word here rendered “layeth” – from קרה qârâh – means properly to meet; then, in Hiphil, to cause to meet, or to fit into each other, as beams or joists do in a dwelling. It is a word which would be properly applied to the construction of a house, and to the right adjustment of the different materials employed in building it. The word rendered “beams” – עליה ‛ălı̂yâh – means “an upper chamber, a loft,” such as rises, in Oriental houses, above the flat roof; in the New Testament, the ὑπερῷον huperōon, rendered “upper room,” Act_1:13; Act_9:37, Act_9:39; Act_20:8. It refers here to the chamber – the exalted abode of God – as if raised above all other edifices, or above the world. The word “waters” here refers to the description of the creation in Gen_1:6-7 – the waters “above the firmament,” and the waters “below the firmament.” The allusion here is to the waters above the firmament; and the meaning is, that God had constructed the place of his own abode – the room where he dwelt – in those waters; that is, in the most exalted place in the universe. It does not mean that he made it of the waters, but that his home – his dwelling-place – was in or above those waters, as if he had built his dwelling not on solid earth or rock, but in the waters, giving stability to that which seems to have no stability, and making the very waters a foundation for the structure of his abode.

His throne

Rev 4:2 And at once I became in spirit. And, behold, a throne was set in Heaven, and One sitting on the throne.
Rev 4:3 And the One sitting was in appearance like a jasper stone, and a sardius; and a rainbow was around the throne, in appearance like an emerald.

His Glory and the Rainbow

Beginning with water, resonating the right sound will produce all the colors of the light spectrum.

The Glory of the LORD is connected w/ music
Luk 2:32 a Light for revelation to the nations, and the Glory
(Greek doxia=Praise) of Your people Israel.

Messiah is His Glory…His Light

Rev 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

Eze 43:2 And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east. And His voice was like the voice of many waters. And the earth shone from His glory.

Mat 5:34 But I say to you, Do not swear at all, neither by Heaven, because it is God’s throne; Isa. 66:1
Mat 5:35 nor by the earth, because it is the footstool of His feet; nor by Jerusalem, because it is the city of the great King. Isa. 66:1; Psa. 48:2

Heaven comes to earth, when His heavenly throne will be here on earth, His footstool

Eze 43:7 And He said to me, Son of man, the place of My throne and the place of the soles of My feet, there where I will dwell among the sons of Israel forever, even the house of Israel shall not defile My holy name any more, they nor their kings, by their fornication, nor by the corpses of their kings in their high places.

This exalted state of the waters above the heavens is seen in the natural realm in the skies above.

Psa 104:3 who lays beams in the waters of His upper rooms; setting thick clouds as His chariots; walking on the wings of the wind.

This points to Messiah

Mat 26:64 Jesus said to him, You said it. I tell you more. From this time you shall see the Son of Man sitting off the right hand of power, and coming on the clouds of the heaven. Psa. 110:1; Dan. 7:13

Rev 1:7 “Behold, He comes with the clouds,” and “every eye will see Him, and the ones who pierced” Him, and all the tribes of the earth “will wail on account of Him.” Yes, Amen. Dan. 7:13; Zech. 12:10

7 Stars

Rev 2:1 To the angel of the Ephesian assembly, write: These things says the One holding the seven stars in His right hand, He walking in the midst of the seven golden lampstands:

The ancients connected the menorah, which is a picture of the body of Messiah, to the 7 ‘stars’ which are the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn

The Midrash (Bamidbar Rabbah 15:7) compares the seven lamps of the Menorah to the seven planets in the solar system, illuminating the nighttime sky.

Philo (Moses. 2.102, 105) worked into his descriptions symbols which he derived from notions of the cosmos and the universe current in his day. He saw the menorah and vessels of the Temple as representing the planets, the cyclic quality of life and the concept of time. The branches of the menorah, according to Philo, could be likened to the celestial bodies. The light in the center represented the sun, while those on either side stood for the remaining planets, three on each side, with their flames facing the center.
Josephus (Antiquities of the Jews 3.7.7) interpreted the Tabernacle and its furnishings to represent the universe. He saw the Tabernacle’s two parts accessible to the priests (the Holy and the Courtyard) to denote the land and the sea, the third division set aside for God (the Holy of Holies) to represent heaven, inaccessible to people. He saw the 12 loaves to denote the year divided into months. He saw the Menorah divided into 70 parts, representing the 70 divisions of the planets, and the seven lamps on the Menorah to refer to the course of the seven planets (then known). He saw the veils, composed of four things, to declare the four elements: the fine linen signified the earth, because the flax grows out of the earth; the purple signified the sea, because purple was dyed by the blood of shellfish from the sea; the blue signified the air; and the scarlet signified fire.

Clement, Presbyter of Alexandria, the Stromatist’s Book on Providence.
From the Catena on the Pentateuch, Published in Latin by Francis Zephyrus, p. 146.

That mystic name which is called the Tetragrammaton, by which alone they who had access to the Holy of Holies were protected, is pronounced Jehovah, which means, “Who is, and who shall be.” The candlestick which stood at the south of the altar signified the seven planets, which seem to us to revolve around the meridian, on either side of which rise three branches; since the sun also like the lamp, balanced in the midst of the planets by divine wisdom, illumines by its light those above and below. On the other side of the altar was situated the table on which the loaves were displayed, because from that quarter of the heaven vital and nourishing breezes blow.

Job 38:5-7 Do you know who determined its dimensions or who stretched the measuring line across it? (6) On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone, (7) when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

According to the observation of radio-astrophysicists, stars, by radio wave context, are ‘singing’ to us…. Stars throughout the universe are emitting radio wave energy. Some entire galaxies are emitting
almost nothing but radio wave energy.

NASA discovered to their amazement that not only are these stars emitting radio wave energy, but that there is music on those radio waves of energy…. not only is music emitted, but the music being emitted is in a major key. The music being emitted from these stars is harmonious.

NASA compared the music being emitted from these star sources to the instruments of an orchestral creation. It seems that everywhere we look, creation is orchestrated.

Recently, with some special plasma ionized research units, NASA found that Neptune and some of the other planets in our solar system emit a signal which sounds like whistling, as if it were whistling a tune…

The Menorah and the Solfeggio Scale

Identity – You are the Tabernacle of God by John Saba pg 54

Day 1 of creation corresponds to day 4. Day 2 corresponds to day 5. Day 3 corresponds to day 6. The Light of the 1st day connects with the light of the sun on day 4. The fish in the 5th day and the water of the 2nd day connect. Man in the 6th day connects with the earth/dust from whence he came. Using this pattern Mr. Saba found that the menorah shows the original Solfeggio scale Solfeggio Scale .

Messiah & His body

Jeremiah links the covenant/Word with the sun, moon and stars (Jeremiah 31:31-37; 33:14-26)

Joseph’s dream links the heavenly bodies to Israel

Gen 37:9 And he dreamed still another dream, and told it to his brothers. And he said, Behold, I have dreamed another dream: And, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars were bowing themselves to me.
Gen 37:10 And he told it to his father, and to his brothers. And his father rebuked him, and said to him, What is this dream which you have dreamed? Shall we indeed come to bow ourselves to the earth to you, I, your mother, and your brothers?

Gen 15:5 And He brought him outside and said, Look now at the heavens and count the stars, if you are able to count them. And He said to him, So shall your seed be.

Gen 15:6 And he believed in Jehovah. And He counted it to him for righteousness.
Gen 22:16 And He said, I have sworn by Myself, declares Jehovah, that on account of this thing you have done, and have not withheld your son, your only son,
Gen 22:17 that blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens, and as the sand which is on the shore of the sea. And your Seed shall possess the gate of His enemies.
Gen 22:18 And in your Seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed because you have obeyed My voice.
Gen 26:4 And I will increase your seed like the stars of the heavens, and I will give to your seed all these lands. And all the nations of the earth shall bless themselves in your Seed,

Deu 1:10 Jehovah your God has multiplied you, and, behold, today you are as the stars of heaven for multitude.
Exo 12:37 And the sons of Israel traveled from Rameses to Succoth, the men being about six hundred thousand on foot, apart from little ones.
Exo 12:38 And also a mixed multitude went up with them, and flocks, and herds, very many livestock.

The Visible Universe: chapters on the origin and construction of the heavens – John Ellard Gore pg 285
In Durchmusterung* it appears that number of visible stars is 600,000

*Argelander’s Durchmusterung
In astronomy, Durchmusterung or Bonner Durchmusterung (BD), is the usual name for three comprehensive astrometric star catalogues of the whole sky, processed by the Bonn Observatory (Germany) from 1859 to 1903.

Heavenly bodies = hosts/armies

Gen 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

Psa 33:6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

Exo 7:4 And Pharaoh will not listen to you. And I will put My hand on Egypt, and will bring My armies, My people, the sons of Israel, from the land of Egypt with great judgments.

Exo 12:51 And it came to pass the selfsame day, that the LORD did bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their armies.

Adam Clarke
By their armies – צבאתם tsibotham, from צבא tsaba, to assemble, meet together, in an orderly or regulated manner, and hence to war, to act together as troops in battle; whence צבאות tsebaoth, troops, armies, hosts. It is from this that the Divine Being calls himself יהוה צבאות Yehovah tsebaoth, the Lord Of Hosts or armies, because the Israelites were brought out of Egypt under his direction, marshalled and ordered by himself, guided by his wisdom, supported by his providence, and protected by his might. This is the true and simple reason why God is so frequently styled in Scripture the Lord of hosts; for the Lord did bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their Armies.

Jesus is the LORD of Hosts

Jos 5:14 And He said, No, for I now come as the Commander of the army of Jehovah. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped. And he said to Him, What does my Lord speak to His slave?
Isa 55:4 Behold, I gave Him a Witness to peoples, a Leader and Commander of peoples.

Rev 19:11 And I saw Heaven being opened. And, behold! A white horse, and He sitting on it having been called Faithful and True. And He judges and wars in righteousness.
Rev 19:12 And His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on His head many diadems, having a name that had been written, which no one knows except Himself;
Rev 19:13 and having been clothed in a garment which had been dipped in blood. And His name is called The Word of God.
Rev 19:14 And the armies in Heaven followed Him on white horses, being dressed in fine linen, white and pure.

The Camp of Israel

Num 2:2 The sons of Israel shall encamp by their fathers’ house, every man with his own standard, according to the standards. They shall encamp around the tabernacle of the congregation, afar off.

The Camp of Israel was divided up as the 12 constellations

Standards of the Tribes

According to rabbinical tradition, the standard of Judah bore the figure of a lion, that of Reuben the likeness of a man, or of a man’s head, that of Ephraim the figure of an ox, and that of Dan the figure of an eagle; so that the four living creatures united in the cherubic forms described by Ezekiel were represented upon these four standards” (Keil and Delitzsch, Commentary on the Pentateuch, III, 17). A variant of this tradition gives as the standard of Reuben, “unstable as water” (Gen_49:4 the King James Version), a Man and a River, and of Dan, “Dan shall be a serpent in the way” (Gen_49:17), an Eagle and a Serpent. These four forms are also found in the constellations in the four quarters of the heavens. Aquarius, the man with a stream of water, and Leo were the original zodiacal constellations of the two solstices, Taurus was that of the spring equinox, and Aquila and Serpens were close to the autumnal equinox, the latter being actually upon the colure.

4 Living Creatures

Surrounding the throne of God are the 4 living creatures which correspond to the 4 cardinal points of the zodiac and to the camp of Israel.

Eze 1:10 And the likeness of their faces: the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side to the four of them; and the face of an ox on the left to the four of them, and the face of an eagle to the four of them.

Rev 4:4 And around the throne I saw twenty four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty four elders sitting, having been clothed in white garments. And they had golden crowns on their heads.
Rev 4:5 And out of the throne come forth lightnings and thunders and voices. And seven lamps of fire are burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God;
Rev 4:6 and a glassy sea before the throne, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne and around the throne were four living creatures, full of eyes before and behind.
Rev 4:7 And the first living creature was like a lion; and the second living creature like a calf; and the third living creature having a face like a man; and the fourth living creature like an eagle flying.
Rev 4:8 And the four living creatures each one had six wings around, and within being full of eyes. And they had no rest day and night, saying, “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty,” the One who was, and is, and is coming!
Isa. 6:3
Rev 4:9 And whenever the living creatures shall give glory and honor and thanks to the One sitting on the throne, to the One living to the ages of the ages,
Rev 4:10 the twenty four elders fall down before Him sitting on the throne; and they will worship the One living to the ages of the ages, and will throw their crowns before the throne, saying,
Rev 4:11 Lord, You are worthy to receive the glory and the honor and the power, because You created all things, and through Your will they exist and were created.

Gospel/Word in the Heavens

Gen 1:14 And God said, Let luminaries be in the expanse of the heavens, to divide between the day and the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years.

The signs of the heavens are a mark/reminder of the covenant with His people.

Jer 33:25 So says Jehovah, If My covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of the heavens and earth,
Jer 33:26 then I also will reject the seed of Jacob, and My servant David, not to take of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. For I will bring back their captivity and have pity on them.

It is God that created the mazzaroth/constellations

Job 26:13 By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.
Job 38:31 Can you bind the bands of the Pleiades, or loosen the cords of Orion?
Job 38:32 Can you bring out the constellations in their season; or can you guide the Bear with its sons?
Job 38:33 Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?

He has numbered & named the stars

Isa 40:26 Lift up your eyes on high and look: Who has created these? Who brings out their host by number? By greatness of vigor, and might of power, He calls them all by names; not one is lacking.

Psa 147:4 He appoints the number** of the stars; He calls to them all by names.
**The Hebrew word for number here is mispar from the root saphar which means a record/scroll. Brown Driver Briggs Hebrew dictionary defines ‘mispar’ as a number or tale. A tale is an account telling a story. This is what the number of the stars does. It tells the story of the Gospel.

Rom 10:17 Then faith is of hearing, and hearing through the Word of God.
Rom 10:18 But I say, Did they not hear? Yes, rather, “into all the earth their voice went out, and to the ends of the world their words.”

The constellations tell the story of the gospel through the names of the stars (Isaiah 40:26; Psalm 147:4). There are 12 constellations and 36 ‘decan’ constellations which further illustrate the meaning of the main mazzaroth.

The Sun

The sun, ‘shemesh’, comes from the root word ‘shem’, the name. As mentioned above His Name = His Word. As the sun moves through it courses, it teaches the Gospel as seen in the above section.

In the Scriptures, the sun is likened to The LORD Jesus.

Mal 4:2 But to you who fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness shall rise up, and healing will be on His wings. And you shall go out and frisk like calves of the stall.

John Gill commentary

shall the Sun of righteousness arise; not the Holy Ghost, who enlightens sinners, convinces of righteousness, and gives joy, peace, and comfort to the saints, but Christ: and thus it is interpreted of him by the ancient Jews, in one of their Midrashes or expositions (a); they say, Moses says not they shall be for ever pledged, that is, the clothes of a neighbour, but until the sun comes, until the Messiah comes, as it is said, “unto you that fear my name shall the sun of righteousness arise”, &c.; and Philo the Jew (b) not only observes, that God, figuratively speaking, is the sun; but the divine “Logos” or Word of God, the image of the heavenly Being, is called the sun; who, coming to our earthly system, helps the kindred and followers of virtue, and affords ample refuge and salvation to them; referring, as it seems; to this passage: indeed, they generally interpret it of the sun, literally taken, which they suppose, at the end of the world, will have different effects on good and bad men.

(a) Shemot Rabba, sect. 31. fol. 134. 2. (b) De Somniis, p. 578.

Keil & Delitzsch commentary

By the sun of righteousness the fathers, from Justin downwards, and nearly all the earlier commentators understand Christ, who is supposed to be described as the rising sun, like Jehovah in Psa_84:12 and Isa_60:19; and this view is founded upon a truth, viz., that the coming of Christ brings justice and salvation. But in the verse before us the context does not sustain the personal view, but simply the idea that righteousness itself is regarded as a sun. Tsedâqâh, again, is not justification or the forgiveness of sins, as Luther and others suppose, for there will be no forgiving of sins on the day of judgment, but God will then give to every man reward or punishment according to his works. Tsedâqâh is here, what it frequently is in Isaiah (e.g., Isa_45:8; Isa_46:13; Isa_51:5, etc.), righteousness in its consequences and effects, the sum and substance of salvation. Malachi uses tsedâqâh, righteousness, instead of יֶשַׁע, salvation, with an allusion to the fact, that the ungodly complained of the absence of the judgment and righteousness of God, that is to say, the righteousness which not only punishes the ungodly, but also rewards the good with happiness and salvation. The sun of righteousness has מַרְפֵּא, healing, in its wings. The wings of the sun are the rays by which it is surrounded, and not a figure denoting swiftness. As the rays of the sun spread light and warmth over the earth for the growth and maturity of the plants and living creatures, so will the sun of righteousness bring the healing of all hurts and wounds which the power of darkness has inflicted upon the righteous. Then will they go forth, sc. from the holes and caves, into which they had withdrawn during the night of suffering and where they had kept themselves concealed, and skip like stalled calves (cf. 1Sa_28:24), which are driven from the stall to the pasture. On pūsh, see at Hab_1:8. And not only will those who fear God be liberated from all oppression, but they will also acquire power over the ungodly. They will tread down the wicked, who will then have become ashes, and lie like ashes upon the ground, having been completely destroyed by the fire of the judgment (cf. Isa_26:5-6).

The LORD & Jesus are likened unto the sun

Psa 84:11 For Jehovah God is a sun and shield; Jehovah will give grace and glory; He will withhold nothing good from those who walk in integrity.

Psa 19:4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
Psa 19:5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.

Mat 9:15 And Jesus said to them, Can the sons of the bridechamber mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will have been taken from them, and then they will fast.
Isa 9:2 The people who walk in darkness have seen a great light. The ones who dwell in the land of the shadow of death, light has shone on them.
Isa 49:6 And He said, It is too little that You should be My servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You for a light of the nations, that You may be My salvation to the end of the earth.
Isa 60:1 Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of Jehovah has risen on you!
Isa 60:2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the peoples. But Jehovah shall rise on you, and His glory shall be seen on you.
Isa 60:3 And nations shall walk to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawning.
Joh 8:12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, I am the Light of the world. The one following Me will in no way walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.

The sun is the greater light ‘ma’or’ which rules the day. Messiah applies this to Himself

Joh 11:9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble because he sees the light of the world.
Joh 12:35 Then Jesus said to them, Yet a little while the Light is with you. Walk while you have the Light, that darkness not overtake you. And the one walking in the darkness does not know where he is going.
Joh 12:36 While you have the Light, believe into the Light, that you may become sons of Light. Jesus spoke these things, and going away He was hidden from them.
Joh 9:4 It behooves Me to work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day. Night comes when no one is able to work.
Joh 9:5 While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world.

Messiah also applies the term ‘light of the world’ to His bride. Interestingly Song of Songs 6:9-10 applies the moon and sun to His bride as well.

Mat 5:14 You are the light of the world. A city situated on a mountain cannot be hidden.
Mat 5:15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under the grain measure, but on the lampstand; and it shines for all those in the house.
Mat 5:16 So let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works, and may glorify your Father in Heaven.

There are 12 hours in the day (John 11:9) which again points to the body of Messiah, ie the 12 tribes. The Hebrew word for hour is ‘sha’ah’ which comes from the watching of the arch of the sun to determine the hour. This is the origin of the gnomon/sundial which was mentioned above by Keil & Delitzsch (gnomen = nomen/name).

Interestingly, ‘sh’ah’ (hour) is a cognate of ‘yeshuah’ (salvation). Both words come from the root ‘sha’ which refers to a shepherd watching over his flock. On a deeper level, it is pointing to Messiah saving His bride at the ‘midnight cry’ (Matthew 25:6; Exodus 12:29). The calendar is based upon the movements of the heavenly bodies which points directly to Messiah. The cycles of the feasts throughout the year points to Him, the cycles of the Jubilees, and even the hours of our day point to Him. All was created to reveal His Glory.

Sir 42:16 The sun that giveth light looketh upon all things, and the work thereof is full of the glory of the Lord.

The word ‘sha’ is referring to the shepherd watching over His flock. This relates to another Hebrew word ‘ahn’:

The English word ‘eye’ comes from this Hebrew word. Notice how these words that are related to the sun also are related to watching and the eye. This is one of numerous reasons why the heathen worshiped the ‘sun god’. This is why the sun god is portrayed with an ‘all seeing eye’ as well as being related to the triangle/pyramid, which is in the same shape as the ancient Hebrew letter dalet, which is the origin of the Greek letter delta. Dalet has the gematria of 4 which relates to the 4th dimension of time, of which the sun is intimately connected.

The sun, moon and stars were created to be shadow pictures of Messiah. As with all shadows of Messiah, the perversion/counterfeit of those pictures leads to the antichrist. The Hebrew word for owl, ‘ya’anah’, also comes from this root ‘ahn’ and is used throughout heathen cultures as a symbol of the goddess/moon as light of the nightclick here.

The sun is further connected to the eye through the Hebrew word for the eyelashes.

Each blink/twinkling (1 Corinthians 15:52) of our eyes is a picture of the resurrection where we are gathered together to our Lord. The root of the word ‘aphaph’ is ‘aph’ which is a picture of a bird covering its chicks with its wings (Deuteronomy 32:10-11; Psalm 91:1-9). Each day when the sun rises it is a picture of the resurrection as well (Malachi 4:2). In Hebrew the word for dawn is shachar from the root shach which means the pit. When the sun sets it is a picture of death/going into the pit, when it arises it is a picture of resurrection. When man awakens, his eyes are opened from darkness and sleep which is a picture of death (Job 14:13-15; Daniel 12:2-3; John 11:11-14) .

1Co 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
1Co 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
The word ‘twinkling’ here is from the Greek:

Thayer Definition:
1) a throw, stroke, beat
2) a moment of time

This word is used in the Septuagint to translate the Hebrew word ‘shachaq’ which means to beat/pound/pulverize to powder (Genesis 3:19) and comes from the root ‘shaq’ which means the ‘pit’. ‘Shaq’ is the root of the word ‘shaqar’ which means the ‘dawn’. Again, the imagery of the blinking/twinkling of the eyes showing the picture of the resurrection of the dead.

The 2nd coming of Messiah and the resurrection of the dead is pictured by the rising of the sun each morning.

Psa 110:3 Your people shall have willingness in the day of Your might; in the majesties of holiness; from the womb of the dawn, to You is the dew of Your youth.

Psa 30:4 Sing praises to Jehovah, O saints of His; and give thanks to the memory of His holiness.
Psa 30:5 For His anger is only a moment; in His favor is life. Weeping may endure in the evening
(Tribulation period), but joy comes in the morning (2nd coming & resurrection).

This concept of tribulation being darkness and the coming of Messiah in the morning is further seen in Psalm 46, which is clearly set during the tribulation/kingdom time period.

Psa 46:1 To the chief musician. For the sons of Korah; A song. For the Virgins. God is our refuge and strength, very much found to be a help in distresses.
Psa 46:2 On account of this we will not fear when the earth changes and when mountains are slipping into the heart of the seas.
Psa 46:3 Let its waters foam; let the mountains shake in its swelling. Selah.
Psa 46:4 There is a river, its channels gladden the city of God, the holy tabernacles of the Most High.
Psa 46:5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be shaken; God will help her at the turning of the morning.
Psa 46:6 The nations roared; kingdoms were shaken; He gave forth His voice and the earth melted.
Psa 46:7 Jehovah of Hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is a refuge for us. Selah.
Psa 46:8 Come, behold the works of Jehovah, who sets ruins on the earth,
Psa 46:9 causing wars to cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts apart spears; He burns the chariots in the fire.
Psa 46:10 Be still and know that I am God! I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth.
Psa 46:11 Jehovah of Hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is a refuge for us. Selah.

Two eyes (2 births), first the natural & then the spiritual.

The Hebrew word for blink is ‘patah’ from the root ‘pat’.

The root word comes from ‘pat’ which is the word for a woman’s privy. This links to the first birth, blinking/awakening (picture of resurrection) is linked to the 2nd birth.

Another amazing link to the 2nd birth/birth of the manchild of Revelation 12 is seen Isaiah 8

Isa 8:18 Behold, I and the children (Messiah & His Body) whom Jehovah has given to me are for signs and wonders (mophat) in Israel from Jehovah of Hosts, who dwells in Mount Zion.

As seen in the study ‘Shadows of Messiah – Geology’, the earth is a picture of the body of Messiah which is likened to an eyeball.

Israel is a people & a land which God looks upon at all times which is a microcosm of all the earth.

Talmud – Derech Eretz Zuta 9
‘The world is like a human eyeball. The white of the eye is the ocean surrounding the world, the iris is the continent, The pupil is Jerusalem, And the image in the pupil is the Holy Temple.

Deu 11:11 But the land, whither ye go to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, and drinketh water of the rain of heaven:
Deu 11:12 A land which the LORD thy God careth for: the eyes of the LORD thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year.

Rev 5:6 And I saw, and behold, in the midst of the throne, and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, was a Lamb standing, as having been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, having been sent out into all the earth.

Each time we blink (aphaph -from aph, shadow of His wings) it is a picture of being overshadowed by the Most High, where the tears renew the eye, this is a picture of baptism and being born again. This concept is further seen in the Psalms where the resurrection is connected with renewed sight.

Psa 17:15 As for me, in righteousness I will look upon Your face; when I awaken, I shall be satisfied by Your image.

The sun, the eye, and the Son are all linked through the English etymology of the word ‘sun’.

The English proper noun sun developed from Old English sunne (around 725, attested in Beowulf), and may be related to south (more on this below on the section on directions). Cognates to English sun appear in other Germanic languages, including Old Frisian sunne, sonne (“sun”), Old Saxon sunna, Middle Dutch sonne, modern Dutch zon, Old High German sunna, modern German Sonne, Old Norse sunna, and Gothic sunnō. All Germanic terms for the Sun stem from Proto-Germanic *sunnōn.

The word ‘sun’ also traces back to the Latin word ‘sol.’

The English word ‘son’ has similar etymological roots to ‘sun’. Interestingly, it traces back the Old Irish meaning to give birth, as has been discussed above in connection with the blinking of the eye, awakening and the rising of the sun in the morning.

Sun, 8, Resurrection

The word for 8 in Hebrew is:

This comes from the root:

The root of 8 comes from ‘shem’ (name/character) which is the same root as sun ‘shemesh.’

Further connecting the sun & the number eight is the word oil. The Holy Spirit is likened to oil (1Samuel 16:13; Zechariah 4:2-3; Revelation 4:5). The sun moves upon the spirit/wind (Ecclesiastes 1:5-6)

רח is the root of the word ‘Ruach’, the Spirit.

The sun’s cycle makes an interesting form when it moves throughout the sky during the year. This phenomenon is known as the ‘analemma.’ If you photographed the sun once a week at the same time of day for an entire year, you would have a photo of the analemma, the sun’s apparent path on the sky over the course of a year, which looks like a figure-eight.

The Sun is moving in a continual ‘figure eight’ path.

Could this be why the infinity symbol is portrayed as the number 8 on its side? Is this where the image of the ‘Ourobouros’ (serpent eating its tail) comes from? The heathen mystery religions are a counterfeit of the Truth of the Holy Scriptures, perverting the heavenly bodies and their meanings. The Mazzaroth (Constellations) teach of the Gospel of Messiah. His birth, death and resurrection. So what is seen in the mystery religions? Stories of Christ figures born of virgins, dying as atonement for mankind, and resurrecting etc. The Almighty allows these religions (Deu. 4:19) in order to give unregenerate man a taste of the Truth so that when the time comes for them to return to Him, their minds are already somewhat prepared and so that no man can have an excuse because He has been calling to us to repent from the beginning (Psalm 19; Rom 1:19; 10:18)

The Covenant

When God cut the covenant with Abraham on Passover, He walked between the pieces of the sacrificed animals as a burning torch. In ancient times when a covenant was cut, the two covenant partners walked through the halves of the split animal(s) in a ‘figure eight’. They would lay each half to the side of each other and stand in between the two bloody halves of flesh, with their backs to each other. Then they would walk right through the bloody halves, making a figure eight, and come back to a stop facing each other.

Gen 15:17 And it happened, the sun had gone down, and it was dark. Behold! A smoking furnace and a torch of fire that passed between those pieces!

The number 8 points to the Sun of Righteousness

The Moon

The Hebrew word for moon is ‘yereach’

‘Yereach’ comes from the root ‘rach’ which means a prescribed path

The moon follows a prescribed path through the sky each day. It is the exact same, east to west path that the sun follows. This is because the moon is a representation of the bride of Messiah who is to follow in His footsteps (1 John 2:6). Believers follow Messiah through the Holy Spirit (John 16:13). As mentioned above, the word for Spirit is ‘ruach’ which comes from the above mentioned root ‘rach.’

The light of the moon comes from the sun, just as the light of believers comes from Messiah.

Mat 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Mat 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

Phi 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Phi 2:14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
Phi 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
2Co 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Another word in Hebrew translated as moon is ‘lavan’

‘Laban’ comes from the root ‘ben,’ which means ‘Son.’

Exo 4:22 And you shall speak to Pharaoh, So says Jehovah, My son, My first-born is Israel.

Laban means white and is applied to the moon because of the light that it receives from the sun. The surface of the moon is actually very dark, much like coal. Again this points to the body of Messiah. In and of ourselves we have no righteousness, no light. It is only when we receive the Light of the Word that we can be white. The moon reflects as white because the light it is receiving from the sun is white. The Sun’s color is white, although from the surface of the Earth it may appear yellow because of atmospheric scattering. The sun is white because it contains all the colors of the spectrum. The 7 colors correspond to the 7 Spirits of God, revealed through Messiah Jesus.

The light of the sun and moon are shadows of the Most High

Isa 30:26 And the moonlight shall be like the light of the sun. And the sun’s light shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day of binding up, Jehovah binding the break of His people, and healing the wound of His blow.
Isa 30:27 Behold, the name of Jehovah comes from afar; His anger burns; and is heavy as the uplifting of smoke; His lips are full of fury, and His tongue like a devouring fire.
Isa 30:28 And like an overflowing torrent, His breath shall divide to the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of vanity, and a misleading bridle on the jaws of the peoples.
Isa 30:29 The song shall be to you, as the night when the feast is sanctified, and gladness of heart, as one going with the flute, to come into the mount of Jehovah, to the Rock of Israel.
Isa 30:30 And Jehovah shall make the majesty of His voice heard; and He causes His arm to be seen coming down with raging anger and flame of consuming fire, cloudburst and storm, and hailstones.
Isa 30:31 For through the voice of Jehovah, Assyria shall be crushed, the rod with which He strikes.

Isa 60:19 The sun shall not still be your light by day, or the brightness of the moon give you light; but Jehovah shall be for everlasting light to you, and your God for your beauty.
Isa 60:20 Your sun shall not go in any more, and your moon shall not be removed; for Jehovah will become your everlasting light; and the days of your mourning shall end.
Isa 60:21 And your people shall all be righteous; they shall possess the earth forever, a branch of My planting, a work of My hands, to beautify Myself.
Isa 60:22 A little one shall become a thousand and a small one a strong nation. I, Jehovah, will hasten it in its time.
Isa 24:23 Then the moon shall blush, and the sun shall be ashamed, when Jehovah of Hosts shall reign in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem; and before His elders is His glory.
Rev 21:22 And I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty is its temple, even the Lamb.
Rev 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, nor of the moon, that they might shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it, even its lamp is the Lamb.
Rev 21:24 And the nations of the ones saved will walk in its light; and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it.
Rev 21:25 And its gates may not at all be shut by day, for no night will be there.
Rev 21:26 And they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it.
Rev 21:27 And all profaning may not at all enter into it, or any making an abomination or a lie; but only the ones having been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb.
Rev 22:5 And night will not be there; and they have no need of a lamp or a light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them. And they shall reign to the ages of the ages.

Moon & Moedim

Psa 104:19 He made the moon for seasons; the sun knows its going down.

The relation between the moon and the bride of Messiah is further seen in the word ‘seasons’ which in Hebrew is moed. This word is related to the feasts and the calendar but also a collection of people.

The Tabernacle, which is a picture of Messiah and also of His body, is called the ‘ohel moed’ the tent of meeting.

The Feasts

Lev 23:2 Speak to the sons of Israel, and you shall say to them, The appointed feasts (moedim) Jehovah you shall proclaim, holy gatherings (miqra -related to calendar to below), shall be these: These are My appointed seasons (moedim):

The Feasts are designed to reveal the Messiah

God’s plan for the salvation of humanity is shown by the seven feasts He gave to ancient Israel in Leviticus 23. He told the people to celebrate these feasts as “lasting ordinances.” The seven feasts are patterns that describe the two comings of Jesus the Messiah.

The Spring Feasts picture the 1st coming of the Messiah.
The Fall Feasts picture His 2nd coming.
Hos 6:3 Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter (spring) and former (autumn) rain unto the earth.

His Sabbaths and moedim are a sign that God is the Creator

Exo 31:16 And the sons of Israel shall observe the Sabbath, to do the Sabbath for their generations; it is a never ending covenant.

Exo 31:17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

His people are witnesses that He is the Savior

Isa 43:10 You are My witnesses (עד the root of the word moedim), says Jehovah; and My servant whom I have elected; that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed; nor shall any be after Me.
Isa 43:11 I, I am Jehovah; and there is no Savior besides Me.

Notice that the word for calendar traces back to a Greek word which means to call out a name or to bear a name. This is what the Biblical calendar is designed to do. To proclaim the Name of Jesus, to reveal His character by shadow pictures that are done each year during the Spring and Fall feasts which reveal His first and second comings as well as the 12 ‘signs’ of the zodiac which the sun traverses through each year which tells the gospel.

This Greek word traces back to the Hebrew word ‘qara’.

From the root:

Calling upon the Name is to reveal His presence.

The LORD proclaimed the name of Yahweh whenever He physically manifested Himself to Israel
Exo 33:17 And Jehovah said to Moses, This thing which you have spoken I will do. For you have found favor in My eyes, and I know you by name.
Exo 33:18 And he said, I pray, let me see Your glory.
Exo 33:19 And He said, I will cause all My goodness to pass before your face. And I will call out the name of Jehovah before your face. And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy.
Exo 33:20 And He said, You are not able to see My face; for no man can see Me and live.
Exo 33:21 And Jehovah said, Behold, a place by Me! And you shall stand on a rock.
Exo 33:22 And as My glory is passing it will be that I will put you in a cleft of the rock; and I will cover My hand over you during My passing.
Exo 33:23 And I will remove My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face cannot be seen.

Exo 34:5 And Jehovah came down in the cloud. And he placed himself there with Him, and he called on the name of Jehovah.
Exo 34:6 And Jehovah passed by before his face and called out: Jehovah! Jehovah God! Merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and great in goodness and truth,
Exo 34:7 keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and not leaving entirely unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on sons, and on sons of sons, to the third and to the fourth generation.
Exo 34:8 And Moses hurried and bowed to the earth and worshiped.

Qara is the word for read, the Torah is the “physical” manifestation of God on the earth. When the LORD “qara’d” He physically manifested Himself, and proclaimed who/what He is. This is what the reading of the Torah does. The Torah proclaims the Name of the Holy One, as it is said in Revelation 19, His Name (shem- character) is the Word.

This is why the Torah is read in a cyclical fashion. It follows the same principle as the sun, moon and stars in their paths. The sabbaths/feasts are called ‘miqra kodesh’, usually translated as ‘holy gatherings’. Miqra, comes from the same root as ‘qara’. The sabbaths are cyclical gatherings where His people come together to ‘qara’/ call upon His name.

Calling upon His Name is linked to Salvation (Yeshua)

Psa 91:14 Because He has set His love on Me, therefore I will deliver Him; I will set Him on high because He has known My name.
Psa 91:15 He shall call on Me and I will answer Him; I will be with Him in distress; I will rescue Him and honor Him.
Psa 91:16 I will satisfy him with length of days, and will make Him see My salvation

Psa 50:15 And call on Me in the day of distress, and I will save you; and you shall glorify Me.
Psa 50:23 Whoever offers thanks glorifies Me; and he who prepares a way, I will show the salvation of God to him.
Psa 18:3 I will call on Jehovah, who is to be praised; and I shall be saved from my enemies.
Psa 55:16 I, even I, will call to God, and Jehovah will save me.

Rom 10:13 For everyone, “whoever may call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Joel 2:32
Act 2:21 “And it shall be that everyone who shall call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Joel 2:28-32

Sun & moon are ‘one’ at the new moon (twinkling of eye)

Rabbi Nathan Bushwick writes in his book, “Understanding the Jewish Calendar,” page 71, “As the moon moves around the Earth, there is one moment it is exactly between the Earth and the sun. At that moment the Earth faces the dark side of the moon. Already for about a day before this moment the moon has not been visible from any point on the Earth and it will remain invisible for about a day more. This moment is call the molad [mean], the birth of the new moon. We (Jews) use the molad as the official beginning and end point of the cycle of the moon.” Molad is Hebrew for the word “birth or renewal.”

Maimonides states that: “the new moon is defined as the ‘moment in which the sun and moon, in their uniform motion, become conjoined in a certain part of the sky, which occurs in the same way everywhere in different areas” (Sanctification of the New Moon, Bk 3, trtse. 8, p. 89, ch 6).

This is also called the ‘twinkling of the eye’

Rabbi Eliezer describes the molad(conjunction) as a “twinkling of an eye” in Rabbi Eliezer-The Course of the Moon p55

1Co 15:52 In a moment, in a glance of an eye, at the last trumpet; for a trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall all be changed.

The resurrection is at the twinkling of an eye. The righteous will bud forth and fly when there is “no moon”.

Psa 72:7 In His days the righteous shall flourish (bud, fly-the resurrection), and plenty of peace, till the moon is not (בלי ירח when there is no moon, ie the molad/conjunction).

Flourish = parach

On a deeper level, this link between birth/resurrection and the molad/conjunction is seen at Golgotha during the crucifixion of Messiah. The sun was darkened (Luke 23:45). In the natural, the sun is only darkened during a solar eclipse which can only occur during the conjunction between the sun and moon. It is at this time, when the sun was darkened that the bride of Messiah was born. Just as Eve came forth from the side of Adam when he slept (death), so too the bride of Messiah came forth from His side when blood and water fell at Calvary.

On an even deeper level, this link between the molad/conjunction and birth/rebirth is seen in the word ‘chodesh’ which means renewal and is applied to the new moon/month. Chodesh comes from ‘chad.’

Chad/Echad means unity and is the picture of 2 becoming one. This happens when a man and woman come together and ‘know’ each other. This is connected with the new moon and the sun and moon coming together to become ‘one.’ The Hebrew word for the male privy is arak which is the same word for the shaft of the Menorah. On a deeper level this shows that light going into darkness is when ‘chad’ takes place. Further illustrating this is the word menorah itself. It comes from the Hebrew word ner which is seen when farmers plow their fields in order to plant seed. The ground that is broken up is saturated with water and the light that reflects from the sun is what ner means. Again light comes forth from darkness as is seen in Gen 1 and in the moon cycles. The seed is planted in the earth, which is likened to a womb according to David in Psalm 137. On another level this represents being born againclick here. The biblical definition of being born again begins when He plants His seed (His Word) in our hearts. The seed must die and be born again into a new creature. This is what baptism is about, we descend into darkness to begin our new lives and come forth again. The new moon begins at darkness then light comes forth 1-3 days later. Messiah resurrected after 3 days, His people resurrect after 3 days (Hos 6). Messiah speaks of the seed dying as a picture of resurrection (John 12:24) and Paul connects this as well (1 Cor 15).

The 4th day

Arba’ah comes from the root ‘rabah’

The parent root of this word is ‘rab’

Jesus is the ‘rab’ Master/ruler

1Co 8:5 For even if some are called gods, either in the heavens or on the earth; (even as there are many gods, and many lords);
1Co 8:6 but to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him, and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we by Him.

Php 2:9 Because of this also God highly exalted Him and gave Him a name above every name,
Php 2:10 that at the name of Jesus “every knee should bow,” of heavenly ones, and earthly ones, and ones under the earth,
Php 2:11 and “every tongue should confess” that Jesus Christ is “Lord,” to the glory of God the Father.
Isa. 45:23

Time is associated with the number 4. It is the ‘fourth dimension.’

The are multiple words for time in Hebrew, the most used is עת (et) which pictographically means to ‘see the cross’, and in ancient Hebrew thinking meant to ‘see the mark.’ What is this ‘mark’? It is the sun setting (death) and rising (resurrection) above the horizon.

More on ‘qaf’ and it’s relation to time below.

עת corresponds to the Greek word καιρός (kairos) through comparing Daniel 7:25 & Revelation 12:6, 14.

In the Septuagint, kairos is used to translate numerous words but one of which is very interesting. The word ‘tor’ due to its relation to the concept of ‘the mark.’

From this root we get ta’ar and to’ar. These words mean form, outline or border.

‘Toar’ is from the same root ‘tor’ as Torah

The sun and time

The word for hour is related to the sun

This comes from the root ‘שע’ which is a picture of a shepherd watching over his flock. ‘Sha’ is also the root of the word Yeshua.

Further connecting to the Messiah, the letter dalet means a ‘door.’

Joh 10:7 Then Jesus again said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you that I am the door of the sheep.

The word for day is associated with the sun

The word for tomorrow is related to the sun

Another word relating time and the sun is “pa’am”

How does the rhythmic beating of a drum relate to the sun? The human heartbeat.

At sunrise the sky appears red

This word comes from ‘dam’ meaning blood.

‘Dam’ literally means waters from the door. As in the living waters that come forth from the Temple, or the living waters of blood that come forth from the heart. The sun moving through the zodiac is also a picture of this. Psalm 19 speaks of the sun following the path of the zodiac and coming forth from ‘his canopy’ representing the Temple. A healthy heart pumps on average 72 times a minute, the sun moves a degree through the ecliptic every 72 years. It seems that the beating of the human heart corresponds with the movement of the sun through the ecliptic.

The ‘circle’ traced by the earth’s axis around the north ecliptic pole is not smooth but wavy, as the moon’s gravitational pull causes the earth to ‘nod’ about once every 18 years (currently 18.6 years), a movement known as nutation. The circle therefore contains about 1440 waves, since 18 x 1440 = 25,920. Note that the average human heartbeat is equal to 72 beats a minute, and on average we breathe about 18 times a minute. 72 years (= 6+60+6 or 6×12) is said to be the ‘ideal’ lifespan of a human being, during which time the sun moves through one degree of the zodiac in the precessional cycle. A human breathes 72 times in 4 minutes, the time required for the earth to turn 1 degree on its axis. In 24 hours (86,400 seconds) we breathe 18 x 1440 = 25,920 times, equal to the number of years in the precessional cycle.

According to the National Geographic’s ‘Incredible Human Machine’ it takes 72 muscles for man to speak. The Hebrew word for time, עת, means to see the mark. What is the mark? It is when the sun rises directly east (qedem ‘sun of blood’) at the time of the tequphah which literally means the ‘sun speaks.’

According to Ecclesiastes 1:5-6, the sun moves upon the wind/ruach again linking to the blood which flows through the human body and the living waters which flow forth from the throne of God.

The path of the sun through the zodiac comes from the following Hebrew word:

According to the Revelation 22:1-2, the river of life that comes forth from the throne of God, is linked to 12 fruits of the tree of life.

The word for the constellations/zodiac in Hebrew is ‘mazzaroth’ which traces back to the Hebrew word nazar.

What was on the crown of the High Priest? The sacred name of God (Exodus 29:6; 39:30) According to Josephus (Wars of the Jews Book 5 Chapter 5 Section 7) the sacred name consisted of 4 vowels which are pronounced with our breath. The Hebrew word for ‘name,’ is ‘shem’ which means breath/wind. It is the root for the word ‘shamayim’ which means heaven. ‘Shem’ is also the root of the word ‘shemesh’ which means the sun. Every breath we take we are proclaiming His Name. Each breath we take brings oxygen into our lungs which brings life to our blood and to our cells.

4 directions & the sun

‘Motza’ is from the root צא, which is related to the parent root צי

This is an interesting connection between the rising of the sun in the east and the desert. It is easy to relate the sun and the desert with the hot sands of the desert and the blazing heat. Interestingly the word for sand in Hebrew is ‘chol’ which comes from the root חל which is one of the words used in Hebrew for ‘beginning.’ Another word used for beginning comes from the word above ‘motza’ which, in the feminine form, means a beginning or origin. This is brought to light because it is said that God rides upon the skies/desert (arabah).

Psa 68:4 Sing to God, sing praise to His name; lift up a song for Him who rides in the deserts (KJV ‘heavens’), by His name Jah; yea, exult in His presence.
The word deserts/heavens in the above verse is ‘arabah’

Another word for west is ‘sea’, because the rising of the sun is to the east in the land of Israel, so the direction of west is where the Mediterranean Sea is.

As seen above, this is the root of the word ‘yom,’ which means day.

The Stars

As seen above, the stars represent Messiah & His body.

The Hebrew word for star is ‘kochab’ which comes from the root ‘kab’ which further links to the body

The Goat Hair Tent Jeff Benner

The house/dwelling place of man is a picture of the dwelling place of God.

“Like any other cloth, there is space between the hair fabric. Light coming through the black roof appear as stars in the night sky. “He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in” (Isaiah 40.2). When the hair fibers get wet from the rains, the fibers expand, forming a watertight roof.”

“The size of the tent will depend on the size and wealth of the family. The wealthier families will have separate tents for the wife, such as Abraham had for Sarah. As the family grows, additional panels are added to increase the size of the tent. “Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes” (Isaiah 54:2).”

Enlarging the family tent corresponds to the the stretching forth of the Heavens in the beginning. This points to the ‘Son’.

As seen in Proverbs 8, The Scriptures speak of Wisdom as the master craftsman/builder in the beginning with the Father. This word is amon/amen which points to the Messiah. Interestingly, the Hebrew word for build is ‘banah’ which comes from the same root as son, ‘ben’.

Jer 10:12 It is He who made the earth by His power*, who established the world by His wisdom, and who stretched out the heavens by His understanding.

What is the Hebrew word for understanding?

תּובנה / תּבוּנה / תּבוּן
tâbûn / tebûnâh / tôbûnâh

This word comes from the same root as ‘ben’/son.

On a deeper level, the heavens point to the body of Messiah. Paul speaks of the resurrected body we shall receive which is from heaven.

2Co 5:2 For also in this we groan, greatly desiring to be clothed with our dwelling place out of Heaven,

This is the body that shall be formed in His Image.

1Jn 3:2 Beloved, now we are the children of God, and it was not yet revealed what we shall be. But we know that if He is revealed, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He is.

We shall be covered in His garments of salvation

Isa 61:9 And their seed shall be known among the nations, and their offspring among the peoples; all who see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed* that Jehovah has blessed.

*The Seed = Messiah Galatians 3:16, 29. Who is the seed that the LORD has blessed? His BodyManchild.

Isa 61:10 Rejoicing I will rejoice in Jehovah. My soul shall be joyful in my God. For He clothed me with garments of salvation; He put on me the robe of righteousness, even as a bridegroom dons as a priest his head-dress, and as a bride wears her ornaments.
Isa 61:11 For as the earth comes out with her buds, and as a garden causes that which is sown to grow, so the Lord Jehovah will make righteousness and praise to grow before all the nations.

Notice the connection between the resurrection (earth sprouting her buds) and being clothed in the garments of Messiah.

Psa 132:9 Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness*, and let Your saints shout for joy.
Psa 132:13 Jehovah has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His dwelling-place.
Psa 132:14 This is My rest till forever; I will dwell here; I have desired it.

Psa 132:16 And I will clothe her priests with salvation*; and her saints shall surely shout.

Garments of righteousness = garments of salvation (Yeshuah). What is our righteousness? Christ the LORD (Jeremiah 23:6)

His body is His house/tent

1Ti 3:15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

Heb 3:6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

The stars are related to the appointed times as well.

Gen 2:1 And the heavens and the earth were finished, and all their host (tsaba).

The Hebrew word (צבא tsâbâ’, ‘warfare’) properly means an army or host (compare the note at Isa_1:9), and is usually applied to an army going forth to war, or marshalled for battle 2Sa_8:16; 2Sa_10:7. It is then used to denote an appointed time of service; the discharge of a duty similar to an enlistment, and is applied to the services of the Levites in the tabernacle Num_4:28 : ‘All that enter in to perform the service (Hebrew, to war the warfare), to do the work in the tabernacle of the congregation.’ Compare Num_8:24-25. Hence, it is applied to human life contemplated as a warfare, or enlistment, involving hard service and calamity; an enlistment from which there is to be a discharge by death.
Is there not a set time (Hebrew, a warfare) to man upon earth?
Are not his days as the days of an hireling?
But if a man die – shall he indeed live again?
All the days of my appointed time (Hebrew, my warfare) will I wait,
Till my change come.
Compare Dan_10:1. The word then means hard service, such as soldiers endure; an appointed time which they are to serve; an enlistment involving hardships, toil, privation, danger, calamity. In this sense it is applied hero to Jerusalem – to the trials, calamities, desolations to which she was subjected for her sins, and which were to endure a definite and fixed time – like the enlistment of an army. That time was now coming to an end, and to be succeeded by a release, or discharge. Vitringa, who supposes that this refers primarily and solely to the times of the Messiah, regards this as meaning that the definite time of the legal economy, a time of toil, and of vexatious and troublesome ceremonies, was about to end by the coming of the Messiah.

The warfare (tseba) is over through Messiah

Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He will bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.
Eph 2:13 But now, in Christ Jesus you who then were afar off, came to be near by the blood of Christ.
Eph 2:14 For He is our peace, He making us both one, and breaking down the middle wall of partition,
Eph 2:15 in His flesh causing to cease the enmity, the Law of the commandments in decrees, that He might in Himself create the two into one new man, making peace,
Eph 2:16 and might reconcile both in one body to God through the cross, slaying the enmity in Himself.
Col 2:13 And you, being dead in the deviations and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all the deviations,
Col 2:14 blotting out the handwriting in the ordinances against us, which was contrary to us, even He has taken it out of the midst, nailing it to the cross;
Col 2:15 having stripped the rulers and the authorities, He made a show of them in public, triumphing over them in it.
Col 2:16 Then do not let anyone judge you in eating, or in drinking, or in part of a feast, or of a new moon, or of sabbaths,
Col 2:17 which are a shadow of coming things, but the body is of Christ.
